Sliding Scale Guidelines

Which events do you offer sliding scale pricing options for?

I try to offer sliding scale options as much as I am financially able. I prioritize offering this option especially for workshops, talks, and multi-person events. Each event’s listing will note the ticket price, and detail if it’s is a set price, sliding scale, pay what you wish, and/or no one turned away for lack of funds.

If an event doesn’t offer a sliding scale and you would like to attend but the set price is cost-prohibitive for you, please always feel free to email me at AOPROinfo@gmail.com. I will make every effort to work with you and try to make your participation possible.

How do you structure your sliding scale?

I ask attendees to self-determine where they fall on the scale. No documentation is needed to enroll; pay what you feel is fair. If you would like to attend but are not able to afford the ticket, and the event is listed as “no one turned away for lack of funds” simply use the application/RSVP link to enroll, and select the appropriate option in the form to let me know. I’m excited to have you with regardless of what you’re able to pay.

Feel free to pay lower on the scale (or take me up on attending without paying for a ticket) if you…

  • are more likely to experience discrimination as a result of your race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, or disability

  • are unemployed or underemployed

  • experience ongoing financial insecurity

  • struggle to meet basic needs, rent, or bills

  • experience ongoing financial strain due to illness, disability, or serving as a caretaker

Please consider paying higher on the scale if you…

  • benefit from race, class, ability, or gender privilege

  • have access to generational wealth

  • can comfortably meet your basic needs

  • are able to travel and/or spend money recreationally

  • have savings, retirement accounts, or investments

  • have own your own home or can comfortably afford rent

  • work part time or are unemployed by choice

  • are/were enrolled in a degree-granting program without taking on loans

  • are/were able to take on unpaid labor/internships as part of building your career
